Decorating your kids bedroom - where to start

Talk with your kids
Kids love to be part of bringing decisions, especially if it's to do with their room. Include them in conversations and take into consideration what they want and what they would really love to have in their room. If the colour that they prefer is one you really dislike you can use it for just a few details in the room or use it in a much lighter tone.
Decide on the budget
Decide on how much you are willing to spend. I would also suggest spending a bit more money on good solid furniture that can last for years. At the same time don't fall into the trap of thinking that everything needs to be expensive to look good. Plan ahead and try to stick to your budget.
Colour palette & style of the room
It’s much easier to plan your kids room if you decide on your colour palette and the style that you're going for. But it’s also easy to get lost in all the beautiful online shops and lose the track of what you really want to achieve so plan and concentrate when you're looking for your items ;) Also mix and match furniture rather than buying a coordinated set. That will add a bit of personality.
Plan the space
Good planning is the key to a practical room. You don’t want to end up with furniture that is too big or too small for your space. Also you want to have good balance in the space. Plan the space keeping in mind what your child does in the room, what activities – sleep, dress, play, read, store possessions, relax and unwind. Think about the interests he or she has and how they will use the space.

Choose furniture & storage
Choose solid furniture that will last you for years, classic pieces in neutral colours or solid wood. If you want to help your kids to stay organised, keep things at their height. Lots of storage, benches, shelves, baskets and coat racks will all be used more often if kids can get to them easily.

Art & Decor
With choosing wall art and decorative pieces like cushions, throws, baskets, toy boxes and other accents you’ll add more warmth and personality. Choose things with your child in mind or if your child is old enough you can choose decorative pieces together.

Don’t forget lighting
Be sure to include multiple kinds of lighting in a kid's room. Overall lighting is a necessity. Include a reading light, but a night light and fairy lights can also be a nice addition.

Have fun!
